17th Headies: “Family Time” by Erigga gets “Best Rap Album” nomination

The Headies Academy on Wednesday February 12, announced the nomination list for the 17th edition of the Headies Awards taking place on April 5, 2025.

The award which is returning to Nigeria after two editions in the US, is set to be be highly competitive. Some of the biggest names in the industry, the biggest hits and critically acclaimed albums across different genres, released in the year under review have all been nominated in multiple categories.

Warri-born rapper Erhiga Agarivbie popularly known as Erigga secured only one nomination in the Best Rap Album category for his album “Family Time”.

Erigga is nominated alongside hiphop heavy weights; Illbliss, Odumodublvck, Reminisce, Modenine and Phyno.

Erigga was snubbed at the last edition for Rap Album of the Year. The rapper started boycotting the Headies Awards after his 2020 experience with the organizers. He said his 2020 album ‘The Erigma II’ lost out in the Best Rap Album category at the 14th edition of the award show which shouldn’t have happened.

While announcing the nominees, The Headies in a statement on their X account said;

Only music materials including singles, videos, video live recordings, EPs & albums released & distributed on digital streaming platforms, & physical music media (cassettes, CDs & vinyl) within the year in review (April 1, 2023, & July 31, 2024) were considered for nomination“.

Over the years, the Headies Next Rated prize has become one of the most anticipated and keenly contested categories. This year, OdumoduBlvck, Shallipopi, Ayo Maff, Qing Madi, and Nasboi have all been nominated in that category.
