Hon. Chief Peter Uviejitobor, Delta State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, has provided insights into the ministry’s 2025 budget after defending it before the Interministerial Budget Committee.
The defence session, held on Monday, October 21, 2025, at the Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba, was organized by the Ministry of Economic Planning.
Speaking to journalists, Chief Uviejitobor described the budget defence as a significant milestone for his ministry. “Today marks a special occasion as we just completed my first Interministerial budget defence. The budget, despite initial reductions, was ultimately adjusted and aligns with our priorities. It is a ‘budget of hope’ for my ministry,” he said.
Chief Uviejitobor expressed confidence that the 2025 budget would increase revenue generation, enhance youth sensitization, and strengthen local content development.
He noted that the budget is categorized into four key areas: revenue generation, personnel costs, non-regular overheads, and capital projects. He also emphasized the budget’s potential for full implementation in 2025, pending final approval by the House of Assembly.
Addressing corporate social responsibility, Chief Uviejitobor highlighted the ministry’s role in mediating between oil companies and host communities.
“Our primary responsibility is to mediate between the oil industry and the communities where they operate. We’ve successfully resolved numerous disputes with companies like Seplat, ensuring mutual benefit for both the industry and the communities,” he stated.
Chief Uviejitobor’s remarks reaffirm the ministry’s dedication to fostering cooperation between oil companies and local communities while ensuring the smooth execution of its 2025 budget plans.
