Nigeria, who have made it to the finals six times, are expected to be at their strongest in their attempt to win Africa’s spot in the Intercontinental Play-offs for next year’s FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. This was stated by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Gusau expressed confidence on Wednesday, saying that apart from the strong Nigerian spirit that helped the team reach the play-offs, the National Sports Commission and the NFF are working together to ensure the three-time African champions are ready to beat Gabon on Thursday, the 13th of November, and to defeat the winner of the other semi-final between Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, the 16th of November.
“Everything is being done by the NSC and the NFF to make sure nothing is left to chance.
No stone will be left unturned. The same fierce spirit that helped the team score the four goals they needed against the Bénin Republic on the last day of the qualifiers will drive them to victory in the play-offs,” he added.
“The training camp will start in Rabat, Morocco on Sunday, the 9th of November.
We are already talking to the players, and everyone is in agreement. All necessary preparations will be made to help the team achieve victory, and I believe the players are also motivated by their strong desire to play in the FIFA World Cup finals.”
The Nigerian team will face Gabon at either the El-Barid Stadium, which has a capacity of 18,000, or the Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex, which can hold 22,000 people, both located in Rabat.
The final of the play-offs will take place at the Stade Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan.
The Confederation of African Football has announced that a draw will be held on Thursday, the 30th of October, to decide which semi-final match will be played at each stadium.
