Authorities in Delta State have confirmed the sudden death of a 60-year-old American woman, Jacqueline Bolling Elton, who passed away on Monday while visiting her male companion in Warri.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, Elton had arrived in Warri on September 15 to spend time with her friend, 39-year-old Alawode Olaide.
Reports indicate that at about 3:00 p.m. on September 29, she developed sudden health complications while at Olaide’s residence.
She was first rushed to a private hospital in Otokutu, but her condition required further attention, prompting a referral to the Central Hospital, Warri. Medical personnel at the hospital, however, declared her dead on arrival.
Delta State Police Command confirmed that the matter was immediately reported, and officers visited the residence as part of standard procedure.
The deceased’s body has since been deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, where an autopsy will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
Police spokespersons further disclosed that Olaide has been taken into custody for questioning, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough review.
While the exact circumstances surrounding Elton’s death remain unclear, authorities emphasized that investigations are ongoing and assured both the public and Elton’s family that due process will be followed.
The development has sparked public interest in Warri, as residents await official findings. For now, law enforcement officials maintain that no conclusions should be drawn until the autopsy report and SCID investigation are completed.
