Delta Ministry of Housing defends budget, plans low-cost housing under pilot scheme

Delta State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. God Godknows Angele has expressed satisfaction with the 2025 budget defense session, highlighting the ministry’s readiness.

Speaking after the budget defense, Angele said, “We enjoyed the session because we’ve been preparing beforehand and know what we are supposed to do as a ministry.

“By God’s grace, we focused on the ‘Pilot Scheme’ and the PPP. The ‘Pilot Scheme’ is aimed at providing low-cost housing across the 25 local governments in line with our MORE Agenda.

“This creates opportunities for all, and it has been integrated into the budget. By God’s grace, we see a lot coming next year from this budget we are defending. We are good to go,” Angele stated.

Further explaining the budget’s objectives, the Commissioner emphasized the ministry’s focus on affordable housing options, including two-bedroom, one-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments.

“These are budget-friendly homes, particularly for civil servants and Deltans. We won’t allow the wealthy to hijack the state’s housing market, especially with two-bedroom flats costing over N1 million. Once we are done, everyone will see that our governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is working,” he said.

The proposed ‘Pilot Scheme’ aims to address housing affordability across Delta State’s 25 local government areas, aligning with the state administration’s MORE Agenda.

This initiative seeks to benefit a broad demographic, particularly civil servants and other residents struggling with high housing costs.

The Commissioner’s reference to the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model highlights potential collaboration with private investors to achieve the ministry’s housing goals.

Assessing the ministry’s performance over the past year, Hon. Angele noted, “So far, so good, we have achieved over 45% performance for this year, and we still have 2 months and 2 years left.”

This statement reflects ongoing efforts to meet Delta State’s housing needs and the continuous work planned for the future.

The budget defense, organized as part of the Ministry of Economic Planning’s initiative, underscores the state government’s commitment to improving the standard of living for its citizens through affordable housing projects.

The ministry’s plan is expected to bring relief to many Deltans currently facing high rental costs.
