Warri South Chairman plans farm estates in LG communities

Worried by the rising costs of foodstuffs and other essential commodities, the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, Agbateyiniro Isaac, announced plans on Wednesday for his administration to establish farm estates in communities within the council area.

He stated that this initiative will help boost food production and create “job opportunities for people within the value chain in the area,” while speaking at a media event to mark his 100 days in office.

While noting that the project “would commence soon,” he disclosed that his administration has “already set up a committee to engage with all stakeholders and community leaders on the modalities,” adding that “the various farm produce harvested from the proposed farm village would be sold at subsidised prices to the people in the locality.”

Speaking further, he stated that his “administration is out to give Warri a facelift to make the once-bubbling oil city regain its lost glory.”

Let everybody say it is not possible while we work to make it a reality. We have outlined plans to submit a relevant bill to the legislative arm of the council to create a by-law to facilitate the project,” he stated.

The LG chairman also highlighted various human capital development, infrastructural, and environmental sanitation projects undertaken in his first 100 days, including the construction of a modern abattoir and standard cold room in Pessu Market, the renovation of the abandoned Omadino/Obodo Road, and the renovation of burnt Nupe Street Stores in Igbudu Market, among others.

On the issue of security, he said that the LG is set for the implementation and enforcement of the Delta State Government’s law on the mandatory installation of closed-circuit television in public places throughout the council area.

Highlight of the event was the launch of the ‘Operation Keep Warri South Clean’ programme, the enforcement of which will take effect from the first week of November 2024.
