In a bid to enhancing agricultural productivity and supporting local farmers in Delta State, Mr. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has distributed 600 bags of 50kg fertilizers across the three senatorial districts of the state.
A statement by Mr. Tunde Moshood, the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to Keyamo, said that this initiative of the minister, aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which seeks to foster sustainable development and uplift the livelihoods of Nigerians through agriculture.
The statement hinted that the distribution targeted registered farmer cooperatives across Delta North, Delta South, and Delta Central, providing them with essential resources to improve crop yield and support local food security.
According to the statement, in Delta Central alone, around 30 registered farmers’ cooperatives benefited from this fertiliser distribution, reflecting the government’s commitment to empowering grassroots farmers and promoting agricultural growth.
In his comment, Keyamo emphasized the importance of supporting the agricultural sector as a means to drive economic progress, reduce poverty, and create employment opportunities.
He described the farmers as the backbone of Nigeria, stressing that it was imperative that they received the support needed to enhance their productivity.
The further reiterated his dedication to ensuring that the agriculture sector, alongside aviation, was given the attention and resources they deserved.
“This fertilizer distribution is part of a broader effort to strengthen our agricultural value chain and ensure food security for all Nigerians.
“Agriculture and aviation might seem worlds apart, but they are both critical to our national economy. We’re working to ensure that every sector is strengthened for the benefit of all Nigerians,” he said.
The fertiliser distribution is expected to significantly boost the output of local farmers, especially as the planting season continues.
Beneficiaries across the senatorial districts expressed gratitude, noting that this support comes at a crucial time to increase harvests and reduce dependency on expensive imports.
