Eriethake Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, alongside four members of the Labour Party (LP), officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday, citing internal divisions within their parties as the reason for their defection.
Ibori-Suenu, who represents Ethiope Federal Constituency, was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The other defectors from the Labour Party include Tochukwu from Imo, Donatus Mathew (the Okada rider) from Kaduna, Bassey Akiba from Cross River, and Iyawe Esosa from Edo.
The defection was witnessed by Senators Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Ede Dafinone (Delta), Thomas Joel-Onowakpo (Delta), and Asuquo Ekpenyong (Cross River).
In their letter read on the floor of the House during plenary, the defectors attributed their move to the crises in both the Labour Party and the PDP.
Minority Whip, Ali Isa, invoking constitutional order, called for the declaration of the seats of the five lawmakers as vacant.
However, Deputy Minority Whip, George Ozodinoni denied any crisis within the Labour Party, asserting that those claiming otherwise were attempting to tarnish the party’s reputation.
