The Owerre-Olubor Youths Association in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State said the association has embarked on the construction of the 5-kilometre new Olubor Link road in a bid to bring development closer to the people.
The President of the association, Mr Adimabua Ogbu, disclosed this on Monday in the community.
He said, “Our community youth association was founded five years ago with the help of the traditional ruler, the Ogwude, Pa Okwuudi Ngwai, with a primary objective of enhancing community cohesion and social inclusion, facilitating collaboration with local organizations, schools and government agencies.
“We should always ask what we can do to better the life of our people because the association took youth empowerment as a paramount factor in our developmental drive through education, training and mentorship.
“So far, we have embarked on the construction of the 5-kilometre new Olubor Link road, grading of the town roads among others to bring development to the people.
“This new year, we have trained 110 indigenes of the community in free computer application for five days.
“The selection process for the training cut across the quarters that make up the clan and we will continue the exercise from time to time because an informed society is a developed society.
“The beneficiaries were very happy because the training will go a long way to shape them. We will ensure that we monitor these people.
“Both those in school and out of school from 15 years upward were selected for the training, which was part of our empowerment programme for the youths, they didn’t pay any money and we fed them for free for the days if the training.”
He said the association under his leadership will ensure that the youths are engaged to keep their mind away from evil acts, calling on the government not only to initiate youth programmes but to ensure that such reach them, especially people in the rural communities.
