Oshimili South Peace Committee meet over Asaba, Oko traditional rulers stipends

In a bid to resolve the longstanding legal tussle over monthly stipends for traditional rulers in Oshimili South Local Government area, a Peace Building and Reconciliation Committee, on Friday, January 24, 2025, met at the Council Secretariat, Asaba.

The meeting focused on fostering dialogue between the Asagba of Asaba and the Akor of Oko to achieve an amicable resolution.

The committee, comprising respected High Chiefs from both the Asaba and Oko palaces, brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on the issue.

The Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, Dr. Kelvin Ezenyili, who presided over the session, has consistently championed unity and peace within the council area.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Ezenyili highlighted the historical bond between Asaba and Oko. “Asaba and Oko are one. We have always lived as brothers, and no influence, interest, or tussle will separate us,” he said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering harmony in the region. “Before my election, I promised to prioritize peace and unity in all matters of traditional and community significance. This is a step in that direction,” he added.

The meeting underscored the Oshimili South Local Government’s commitment to creating a peaceful and unified community. Stakeholders expressed optimism that the committee’s efforts would lead to a sustainable resolution of the conflict and uphold the longstanding ties between Asaba and Oko.
