The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State has suffered yet another high-profile defection as Hon. Somadina Anwasia, a prominent party chieftain and former Deputy Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, formally resigned from the party.
Anwasia’s resignation, effective February 3, 2025, is in solidarity with Senator Ned Nwoko’s campaign for the creation of Anioma State.
Anwasia’s departure comes just two days after Senator Nwoko himself left the PDP, triggering what appears to be a wave of defections as party stakeholders align with the Anioma State agitation.
A veteran political figure in Delta politics, Anwasia joined the PDP in 2007 after a distinguished career in the Nigerian Army. Over the years, he has held several strategic positions within the party and government, playing a crucial role in grassroots mobilization and governance.
His exit adds to the growing uncertainty within the PDP in Delta State as more party members weigh their political future in light of the unfolding developments surrounding the Anioma State movement.
