Isoko North extends curfew, adjusts commercial restrictions in Ozoro

The Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State has extended the curfew imposed in Ozoro, adjusting the restrictions on businesses and transportation.

Shops, markets, restaurants, beer parlours, and eateries are now permitted to operate until 9:00 p.m., while restrictions on motorcycles and tricycles remain from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The revised measures were announced in a statement signed by the council’s secretary, Vote Umukoro, after an emergency peace and security meeting on Tuesday.

The curfew, initially set from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., was imposed last week by the council chairman, Godwin Ogorugba, following a violent clash between rival cult groups that left several people dead.

“Effective from today, February 25, 2025, the restriction on Okada and Keke operation remains 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., while shops, markets, restaurants, beer parlours, and eateries are to close at 9:00 p.m. However, cars and other large vehicles are exempt from this restriction,” the statement read.

Authorities have assured residents that security agencies will continue to monitor the situation to prevent further violence. Meanwhile, community leaders and stakeholders have been urged to support peace efforts and discourage criminal activities.

The extension of business hours is expected to ease economic strain on local traders and businesses affected by the initial restrictions while maintaining security measures to curb further violence.
