Police confirm death of Oborevwori’s aide Shimite Bello, detain husband

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the death of Chief Love Shimite Bello, the Special Adviser to Delta state Governor on Trade and Export.

Shimite passed away in the early hours of Easter Monday.

Initial reports stated that she died after a brief illness.

The Command, however, denied that it arrested the husband of the deceased, whom it said that was only placed in protective custody over concerns for his safety as the family of the deceased has lodged a complaint over the circumstances of her death claiming that the husband could have played a role in her death.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, said the husband called to report the death of his wife and also expressed concern that the family of the woman was threatening him. The police then dispatched a team to rescue him from the house and thereafter placed him in protective custody.

“He (the husband) was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked. It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety,” the Police spokesman stated.

The police spokesperson added that since the deceased family lodged a complaint, investigations have commenced to unearth the circumstances of her death.

According to him, “We are currently investigating. In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes.”
