Oborevwori objects to admissibility of BVAS at election tribunal

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has objected to the admissibility of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, (BVAS) reports tendered by the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ovie Omo-Agege at the state governorship election petition tribunal.

Omo-Agege is challenging Oborevwori’s declaration by INEC as winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election in the state at the tribunal.

In the petition filed by the APC candidate, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is joined as first respondent while Oborevwori and the PDP are the second and third respondents, respectively.

Kenneth Omoruan, holding the brief of the petitioner’s counsel, A. K Osawota at the tribunal, tendered BVAS reports for the March 18 governorship and March 19 supplementary elections, certificates of compliance with BVAS as well as 111 voters’ registers.

They included forms EC8A for 143 polling units; EC8B; EC8C; EC8D and EC8E; voter registers; reports of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) used for the election; certificates of compliance for the issuance of the BVAS report; and receipts of payment.

Counsel for Oborevwori and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samson Egege and Ekeme Ohwovoriole, SAN, respectively objected to the admissibility of all the documents tendered except EC8E which has to do with the declaration by INEC.

However, counsels to the respondents in their separate positions, told the three-member panel of justices that the grounds of objecting to the admissibility of the exhibits would be stated in their respective final written addresses, but the tribunal admitted the documents and duly marked them as exhibits in the ongoing trial.

Thereafter, the election tribunal headed by Justice C.H. Ahuchaogu, adjourned the petition to July 6 and 10 for continuation of trial.
