The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Monday Onyeme, has assured the people of Utagba-Uno in Ndokwa-West Local Government Area, that government will prioritize the construction of roads networks in the area, and those in other areas in Ukwuani nation generally because there are few or no roads in the whole of Ndokwa.
According to a statement released yesterday, Onyeme stated this in Asaba when the people of Utagba-Uno in Ndokwa-west LGA paid him a courtesy visit to congratulate him on his assumption of office as deputy governor of Delta State, especially as the very first to emerge from Ukwuani ethnic nationality.
He thanked the delegation for finding time to visit him in demonstration of their joy towards him following his ascension to the office, emphasizing that truly, Onicha-Ukwuani and Utagba-Uno is one.
Onyeme said the Utagba-Uno/Ndemili road in Utagba-Uno axis has already been awarded by the last administration, noting that skeletal work has already commenced.
He therefore, assured them that he would see to its funding, going forward, even as the Eweshi/Utagba-Uno axis, will also receive attention upon the completion of the Utagba-Uno/Ndemili road.
Apart from the roads, the deputy governor, also assured them of the provision of electricity and good hospitals, saying that the M. O. R. E agenda of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration would definitely make life meaningful for all Deltans.
He urged the people to work towards minimising the impact of flooding by clearing and cleaning their surroundings.
“Government will also look into the provision of drainages for the already constructed streets and the subsequent ones, when budget is made, to prolong the lifespans of the roads,” Onyeme said.
The deputy governor expressed his profound gratitude to Rear Admiral Mike Onah (rtd), who led the delegation for the laudable initiative.
In his address, the leader of the delegation, represented by Festus Emegwali, thanked God for making it possible for Onicha-Ukwuani/Utagba-Uno son to emerge as a deputy governor in this current political dispensation.
He expressed absolute confidence that with the combination of Oborevwori as governor of Delta State and Onyeme as his deputy, Deltans, especially Ukwuani ethnic nationality, would witness massive and speedy developments in all areas, because of their individual proven track records as well as their constant connects with the people in the grassroots.
The delegation also used the medium to appeal passionately to the governor to use his position to ameliorate the long neglect of Utagba-Uno people by the previous successive governments in Delta State.
They noted that it is an indisputable fact that in Ukwuani ethnic nation, Utagba-Uno has the largest land mass and the largest population that could even pass for a separate Local Government Area, yet, no meaningful developments in the area to justify its abundant resources.
Amongst the prayers submitted to the governor through his deputy were: the construction of Onicha-Ukwuani/Utagba-Uno/Ndemili road; Utagba-Uno electrification; the upgrades of the three Utagba-Uno Health Centres to Cottage hospitals; flood controls in Etua, Umusam and Umuseti and provision of proper drainage systems in any streets to be constructed subsequently anywhere in Utagba-Uno, as the ones already constructed do not have.
The delegation comprised Chief (Dr.) Agaga Akpati; Chief Festus Ogbolu Emegwali; Chief George Nmor; Chief Pius Uweh; Chief Joseph Adoh; Chief Paul Ossai; Chief Christopher Okwuolise; Chief Julius Agese and Chief M.K Obah.
