The National President of the Concerned Udu Citizens, Comrade Ese Ogboru has appealed to the Delta State Government to direct the security agents to lift the lockdown on Aladja community so that the people do not die of starvation.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, Ogboru decried that the continued lockdown on the community for almost a week had severe toll on the life of the indigent members of the society who may have ran out of stock and cannot go out to source for food or move out of their homes for fear of being molested by security agents.
“What Aladja community is facing today is worst than a war situation. All the streets are completely deserted. No human or vehicular movement is taking place. The once boisterous community is now a shadow of itself. The people trapped in their homes are starving and dying silently of hunger. All entrances and exits have been blocked by the security agents and there is no way anybody could take food to their loved ones trapped in the town.
“The question on everybody’s lips is the reason behind the lockdown. Is it to ensure the people die of hunger and end the war when everybody had died? What manner of lockdown is this? You can’t even step out of your house to buy food and other personal effects for fear of being shot by soldiers on patrol. What is the mandate of the soldiers in the community? One is very worried with what is happening in Aladja.
“The last time our people experienced this kind of terrible situation was during the Biafra war when the Federal Government blocked food supplies to Biafra land. Today all routes for food supply and any form of support for the psychologically traumatized people have been blocked by the soldiers. I thought what should have been done was tight security checks of those moving in and out of the town and not this total lockdown of the community because it is the indigent members of the public without support that are the greatest victims of this horrible lockdown.
“On behalf of all Udu people, we appeal to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to direct the security agents to relax the lockdown to allow for those willing to leave the town to go. Even in major wars around the world, there are usually period of agreed ceasefire to enable the people some breather and for supply of critical needs by donor agencies to victims of war. The situation in Aladja is becoming unbearable. Now is the time for government to act and ask the soldiers to allow our people breath some air of freedom and peace’’, he added.
The President appealed to Udu sons and daughters to assist people in Aladja who may be facing a dire situations as a result of the lockdown and also take a cue from this initiative and cooperate with the President General of Udu Kingdom, Omiragwa Austin Emaduku in his efforts at mustering support for our brothers and sisters from Aladja who have been facing this cruel situations and fear of further attacks on daily basis.
He further thanked the President of Ovwian Community for the initiative of setting up an Internally Displaced Person camp in the community to cater for some victims of the Aladja-Ogbe-Ijoh war.
