Rema and Ayra Starr bag three and two MTV VMAs nominations respectively. New Afrobeats category added.
Nominations for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) have been revealed. The VMAs also introduced the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category, with Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Davido, Musakeys, Fireboy DML, Asake, Libianca, Rema, and Wizkid making the inaugural list.
In addition to being nominated in the Best Afrobeats category, Rema was also nominated for two other awards: ‘Best Collaboration’ and ‘Song of the Year’.
Ayra Starr, on the other hand, has two nominations in the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category – for her single ‘Rush’ and collaboration with Wizkid on ‘2 Sugar’.
The MTV VMAs will take place on September 12. Voting for the VMAs is opened, with most categories closing on September 1.
While the host is yet to be announce, the 2023 VMAs will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
