Various allegation of extortion and corruption continue to plague Nursing Schools in Delta State, despite several panels of investigation being set up in relation to cases of sharp practices levelled against the Director of Nursing in the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Gloria Igumbor and other management staff in the Schools of Nursing across the state.
Some parents and management staff of some of these affected Schools of Nursing namely; School of Nursing, Agbor, School of Nursing, Eku and School of Nursing, Warri have attested to the fact that money paid for any student to be admitted into the school ranges from four hundred thousand naira (#400,000) to one million naira (#1,000,000) per student, as merit by qualified students has become a thing of the past.
Some of the parents who spoke with YourCitiNews Freelance Reporter, Frederick Umuerure called on the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the State Commissioner for Health Dr. Joseph Onojaeme to come to the rescue of students and parents who don’t have these huge amount as bribes for admission into any of the schools of Nursing in Delta State.
On the prevalent malpractice happening in these schools of Nursing, other victims who spoke anonymously alleged that there was nothing the State Governor could do about it as the illegality has been going on since the last administration of Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and nothing was done, noting that the former health commissioner turned a blind eye to most of the allegation raised, after complaints by most parents.
Efforts to reach the Permanent Secretary, Delta State Ministry of Health as at the time of filing this report proved abortive as phone calls to her phone were not returned.
