Guwor lauds former Assembly Members for contributions to growth and devt in Delta

Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, the Speaker of the Delta State Assembly, has expressed his appreciation for the vital contributions made by past members of the House towards the growth and development of the state. He made this commendation during a courtesy visit from the executive and members of the “Forum of Non Sitting Members of the Delta State House of Assembly.”

Speaker Guwor highlighted the significant impact of these former legislators on the overall development of the state, emphasizing their instrumental role. He was joined by prominent figures such as Deputy Speaker Arthur Akpowowo, Majority Leader Emeka Nwaobi, and other principal officers and House members.

The Speaker praised the former lawmakers for uniting under the banner of the “Forum Of Non-sitting Members” to champion a shared cause. He applauded their demonstration of solidarity and love, assuring them that his leadership would continue to extend a hand of fellowship to forum members.

Furthermore, Guwor commended the forum’s commitment to preserving the efforts and contributions of past state leaders. He underscored the importance of their wealth of experience in advancing the Delta Project, the state’s current administration’s development initiative.

Speaker Guwor pledged to collaborate with his colleagues and relevant authorities, including the executive branch, to address the issues and concerns raised by the forum. He stated, “I want to thank you immensely for keeping faith with this current Assembly; we do not take this for granted.”

“As pointed out, my colleagues and I will liaise with the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to see how we would incorporate Non-sitting Members in the appointment into the Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission. This is indeed critical as it would help to strengthen the Commission for better performance,” Guwor added.

He also promised an immediate upward review of the forum’s monthly subvention, although not meeting the requested N500,000, but something substantial would be added before the end of the next week.

The Chairman of the forum, Hon. Akpodiogaga Emeyese, addressed the Speaker earlier in the meeting, formally congratulating him on his election as Speaker of the 8th assembly. Emeyese outlined several challenges facing the forum, including member appointments to the State Assembly Commission, a lack of a secretariat, and limited funds. He requested an increase in their monthly subvention from the current N150,000 to N500,000, assuring the Speaker of their continued support and prayers for the state, particularly the legislative arm.
