Delta to cushion pains of citizens from subsidy removal with palliative

Delta state government has vowed to do all it can to ensure that it cushions the pains and burden of citizens caused by the fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.

Addressing journalists in Asaba, the state Subsidy Removal Palliative Committee, and Special Adviser to the state governor on transport, Olorogun Jaro Egbo made the vow when giving an update and breakdown of how the palliative received from the federal government was distributed across all local government area and wards.

He said the palliative committee received 2 billion palliatives in the form of rice and not in cash.

Egbo said Delta state has received 17,000 bags of rice and 6,750 bags of maize from the 106 trucks, adding that the state also got 300 bags of rice from the Nigeria governor forum earlier which all are payable.

He noted the state subsidy removal committee for the purpose of transparency set up committees that is made up of people that the state committee can trust across the 25 local governments and down to the wards

He said each local government in the state got 696 bags of rice, and that the state palliative committee emphasized that no politician or Political office holder should be part and member of the committee.

He said from the feedback, so far, the results are all positive and the state government is doing absolutely well in the distribution.

He also revealed that the state government is making efforts to reduce the cost of transportation in the state by introducing electric vehicles and gas tricycle to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal.

He noted that the major issues that is really affecting the rise of goods and was a result of transportation, owing to the poor state of federal roads.

Egbo maintained that once the cost of transportation is down, one can get cheaper food items. Adding that the state will ensure that whatever the federal government is bringing will go to the right sources.

According to him, ”we will ensure that whatever the federal government brings goes to the right sources, it is palliative, it is meant for the vulnerable”.
