Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Delta State University (DELSU), Professor Mrs. Rose Aziza has decried rising incidents of ritual killings of young girls by their male friends styled Yahoo boys in Delta state.
Speaking in Okpara inland, Ethiope East local government area, at a symposium tagged, “The contribution of the Urhobo woman in the emergence of modern Urhobo nation”, organized by Urhobo Historical Society for late Dr. Regina Otite, wife of eminent Professor of Sociology, Onigu Otite, Professor Aziza said the ritual killings in Urhobo communities had become something to worry about.
She enjoined Urhobo leaders to evolve measures to tackle the problem, adding that they should also revisit the inheritance question as it concerns women in some Urhobo communities.
Earlier, Chairman of the event and former Minister of Information, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, former Chairman Editorial Board of the Guardian newspaper, Professor Godwin Darah in their separate comments eulogised the memories of late Dr Otite.
Professor Oyovbaire said it was good that the symposium was organized for late Dr Otite, recalling that a similar event held for the husband, Professor Otite when he passed on few years ago.
Professor Enajite Ojaruega, Dr Oghenekevwe Abamwa, Dr Mrs Martha Egbedi and Dr. Mrs Ese Ale in their separate lectures on the topic of the symposium spoke glowingly of Urhobo women in matrimony, describing them as stabilizing agents in their marriages.
