The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, on Wednesday, raised alarm over the prevalence of cultism in the society, particularly among the youths.
The Deputy Governor who made this distressing remarks during a meeting with members of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) at his office in Government House, Asaba, did not mince words when he emphasized on the consequences of cultism.
“Whichever way anybody may look at it, cultism has not done this nation any good; it is a horrible, negative vice that has eaten deep into our society. Anybody who can reverse the direction and make our people not be interested, not engage in cultism, that person is a true patriotic Nigerian who wishes Nigeria and humanity well”, he said.
He implored all Nigerians to actively engage in the battle against this menace, emphasizing that the future of the nation depends on it. He also stressed the need to mobilize as many individuals as possible in the fight against cultism.
“All of us desire good things, all of us desire Nigeria to be good, and we should sincerely work to make Nigeria a good place,” Onyeme asserted passionately.
He commended the POCACOV members for their dedication to combating cultism, recognizing the noble objectives of their mission.
Meanwhile, Rt. Hon. Precious Ejenake, the Administrative Officer of POCACOV, highlighted the organization’s mission, that the primary goal is to save Nigerian youths from the clutches of cultism and other vices, with the overarching aim of creating a safe and secure environment in line with community-oriented policing principles, noting that it was initiated by the Inspector-General of Police.
Ejenake outlined the organization’s objectives, including public awareness about the dangers of cult membership, revitalizing public security awareness, instilling moral values in the youth, and rekindling those in adults.
Other Dignitaries, including the Commissioner of Youth Development, Comrade Agbateyiniro Isaac Weyinmi, and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Government House, Sir Christopher Osakwe, were present to witness this critical engagement in the ongoing fight against cultism.
