Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State on Saturday inaugurated projects at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, and urged graduates to create jobs for themselves and others.
It was at the 3rd combined convocation ceremony of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.
Some of the projects that the governor inaugurated include a three and fifty capacity lecture hall, volleyball, basketball and multi-purpose court, ICT Microsoft Certification Centre among others.
The governor who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, stated that, “graduation is a time to set new goals and targets.”
According to him, graduates should not rest on their oars and put into practice the knowledge and skills they have learnt.
“The public and private sectors will benefit from your education and professionalism, while the entrepreneurial world awaits your ideas.
“In line with the philosophy of this administration of producing graduates with entrepreneurial skills, it is our earnest expectation that you will go out there and create jobs for yourself and others,” the governor said.
He commended the polytechnic for its achievements, asserting, “Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, is no doubt, a fast growing institution and I appreciate the improvements in the areas of infrastructure, capacity building, entrepreneurial and sports development.
“I appeal to the Governing Council, Management and Staff of the school to improve on the work they are doing; I commend the school authority for the enabling environment and prevailing peace which allows for serious academic activities in the school.”
Oborevwori stated that his administration would continue to create conducive learning environment in public institutions at all levels through the provision of adequate infrastructure, equipment for laboratories and maintaining a peaceful environment for staff and students.
Chairman, Governing Council of the Polytechnic Chief Jonathan Arausi in an address, called on stakeholders, corporate organizations and people of goodwill to join hands with Delta State Government for the sustenance of the Polytechnic as a “global centre for academic excellence.”
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu had earlier, thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment to the growth of education in the state.
Awards were presented at the occasion.
