Delta First Lady, Tobore Oborevwori drums support against Gender-Based Violence in Delta

First Lady and Wife of the Governor of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Thursday, called for strong support in the fight against gender-based violence in the state.

Deaconess Oborevwori stated this when the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) visited her on a campaign awareness for the international 16-day activism on gender-based issues at the Government House in Asaba.

Deaconess Oborevwori who is also the founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, committed her support to the protection of every woman and girl in the state, while urging all stakeholders to lend their voice and support to victims of assault, mistreatment, and abuse of all kinds and emphasized that justice for one is justice for all.

She further emphasized that violence against women and girls would no longer be tolerated in the state.

Meanwhile, the CSOs, led by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Hon. Pat Ajudua, decorated the governor’s wife and presented her with a manual on the National Gender Policy.

Other stakeholders at the rally, described gender-based violence as a pandemic that should be given serious attention, as many victims are suffering in silence.

The theme for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is: “Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls”, an annual international campaign that started on November 25 and will continue until December 10.
