Delta Police arrest Inspector for shooting boy during stop and search

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, has confirmed the arrest of a police inspector who allegedly shot and injured a young man during a stop and search operation in the state.

News surfaced Tuesday that a policeman along the East-West Road Ughelli, Delta State, allegedly shot at a boy, with the bullet hitting his leg and abdomen.

X User, @Glofameconcepts, who shared the news, tweeted, “Operative of the Nigeria Police Force on stop and check along East-West Road Ughelli, has allegedly opened fire on a boy, with the bullet hitting his leg and abdomen @Brightgoldenboy no go see this one. Una no go check the wolfs wey una give uniform and gun.”

Responding to the tweet, Edafe confirmed via his X handle that the erring officer had been arrested and detained.

He tweeted, “The Nigeria Police Force does not and will never tolerate unprofessional conduct from any personnel.

“On this premise, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, ordered the immediate detention of the erring police inspector.

“The injured victim is being treated. Meanwhile, The CP urges members of the public to remain calm, as he guarantees justice.”
