Asaba is set to host the best of Nigeria’s Women Football League (NWFL), the Super Six tournament, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium from May 5 to 12, 2023, the organizers have announced.
A statement by the Director General, Delta State Sports Commission, Christopher Anazia, said the Admiralty University Sports Complex, Ibusa, has been designated as the second venue for the tournament.
Assuring that everything needed for the success of the tournament has been put in place, Anaziah said the tournament would be used to decide Nigeria’s representatives at the regional CAF Women Champions League.
He listed the six participating teams as the host state’s team, Delta Queens, Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels from Group A; FC Robo, Edo Queens and Confluence Queens from Group B.
Anazia stating that the six teams qualified for the Super Six Championship from the two groups of the regular NWFL, said: “We are ready to host the championship. This is not the first time that Delta State would be hosting a high profile football championship.
Our state of the art facilities, enabling environment and hospitality of our people will always make Delta State the preferred destination for football stakeholders and other sports in general.”
Bayelsa Queens won the last edition of the Super Six hosted by the Edo State in 2022.
