Gunmen abduct three police officers responding to distress call in Delta

Gunmen have reportedly abducted three mobile police officers while responding to a distress call at Ohoror community in Ughelli north LGA of Delta state.

TheCable reports that the abductors also took away the AK47 rifles loaded with ammunition being carried by the officers.

The three officers were among a team of six mobile policemen deployed to a checkpoint at the Ughelli-Patani road.

A man identified as Moses Progress went to the officers to inform them that he was robbed of his phone and money by some herdsmen.

The leader of the patrol team deployed three of the officers to follow the complainant to the location.

The complainant was said to have returned later on a motorcycle without the officers and confirmed they were ambushed by the attackers.

Confirming the development on Sunday, Edafe Bright, police spokesperson in Delta, said the command is working to “determine the reason behind the disappearance of the officers”.

“Confirmed. Effort is on to unravel the the mystery behind their disappearance and possibly rescue them. A suspect is in custody,” Bright added.
