Delta CP demands patrol vehicles from govt

The Commissioner of Police in Delta, Mr Abaniwonda Olufemi, has identified the provision of patrol vehicles as one of the ways the Delta State Security Trust Fund could assist the police command.

Olufemi noted that the Delta State Police Command was contending with inadequate and old patrol vans, noting that assistance in this direction would go a long way to aid the work of the command.

The CP appealed on Friday when he received the board of the Delta Security Trust Fund, led by its chairman, Mr Daniel Mayoku.

Following growing insecurity in the country, more states are taking a cue from the Lagos State Government by setting up a security trust fund.

The Board Chairman of the Delta Security Trust Fund, Mr. Daniel Mayoku, pledged that the trust fund would support the police and sister security agencies to ensure adequate security of the lives and property of the people of the state.

Mayoku said since the Federal Government had not made up its mind on the creation of state police, Delta State would make the best of the current arrangement.

He said, “The visit is to know the areas the state can assist the police in terms of infrastructure, training and logistics for the proper policing of the state.

“The state cannot keep waiting for the Federal Government to fix the security, hence, the need to assist until state police are put in place. We can’t leave the residents to suffer on account of waiting for the Federal Government.

“All members of this board are civilians, so we are here to know the areas the state can come in and assist the police, so we can go and sleep with our two eyes closed. The police are the key to the state trust fund.

“The major objective of this trust fund is to ensure that the security agencies are well equipped, well-trained and to provide them with infrastructure and logistics for adequate policing.

“We are your partner, everything we do is to enable you to perform very well so that Delta can be in safe hands.”

In his remarks, the Delta Commissioner of Police Delta State, Olufemi, identified operational vehicles as part of the critical needs of the command.

He said, “We will gladly work with you and we will gladly let you know our needs. We have already identified areas where you can come in, if you can help us to refurbish our operational vehicles and others for quick response.

“These vehicles are always on the roads 24 hours and they are all broken down. Security trust fund works in Lagos to take care of operational vehicles; they even have a helicopter for surveillance, and there is effective response from the police.

“I pledge that we will give security our utmost best in the state.”
