The Coalition of Itsekiri Group, CIG, has called on the leadership of Egbema Community in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, to caution members of a certain Egbema Unity Forum, warning that they will not tolerate any attack on the personality of the former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan.
The CIG, which handed down the warning on Sunday May 7, in response to a press statement released last week by the Egbema Unity Forum, described the publication by the Egbema group as “blackmail and false accusation, concocted to gain power and recognition.”
The CIG, through its Chairman and Secretary of Warri North Chapter, Prince Eworitse Majemite and Mrs. Patricia Ojogbon, respectively, said:
“The same people whose tribe produced the Senator that has been representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly for twenty years and working tirelessly with other ethnic groups to frustrate Itsekiri Nation from producing a Senator, are crying wolf. We want to let them know that politics has grown beyond their blackmail approach.
“Deltans are fully aware of their lies, their power-drunk attitude. We are challenging them to produce their record. The record of how they have voted and how they have supported the Peoples Democratic Party over the years in the state and National levels. These same people did not work for PDP in the recent general elections, yet they made false accusations and issued series of threat.
“We want to call on the Governor-elect, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the outgoing Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and other Deltans, to disregard their falsehood.
His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan, is known for his detribalized nature and has exhibited it over the years, working with all tribes. An Ijaw indigene, has been Deputy Governor of the state for almost 8years now and he didn’t deem it fit to do anything for Itsekiri communities, yet no Itsekiri group has insulted him.
“During Dr. Uduaghan’s tenure as Governor of Delta State, he made an Egbema man, Commissioner for Special Duties, an appointment that drew criticisms from other tribes in Delta Central and North Senatorial Districts, on the argument that the Egbemas contributed low votes to the PDP.
“In Warri North, out of the 10 federal wards, the Ijaws have 4 and Itsekiris have 6. It is a shame to see people that have been given juicy offices and positions in Warri North Local Government Area, to come out publicly with such baseless accusations.
They are bent on causing trouble in the Local Government. Available records, show that same people, have been appointed Commissioner, Vice Chairman, Secretary to Local Government, Special Advisers and Special Assistants, among other positions.
“In Burutu Local Government Area, they cannot allow another tribe get appointment. It is on record that Itsekiris are in Burutu Local Government Area and till date, they have not even made an Itsekiri indigene Vice Chairman, Secretary of the Local Government or appointed Commissioner from that area, yet they are crying that they have been short-changed in Warri North.”
