Uvwie Chairman honours Ekpan DPO, Shaba with award of excellence

Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Ramson Onoyake, has honoured the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ekpan, CSP Aliyu Shaba, with an award of excellence for combating crimes and maintaining peace in the area.

He described Shaba as an exceptional police officer whose zero tolerance for crimes has played a major role in entrenching an enduring peace in the area considered to be the most volatile local government in the state.

Speaking while presenting the award to CSP Shaba at the council secretariat in Effurun, on Wednesday during the inauguration of his legacy projects by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the council boss lauded him for his effective policing strategy which had yielded positive results in making the area safe and calm.

He recounted the daily tension in Ekpan community as regards community unrest and violent crimes, explaining that based on concerted efforts of police operatives in the area led by CSP Shaba, the residents are now confident of their safety.

“This award today is in recognition of the remarkable impact of one of the finest police officers who had served relentlessly at the Ekpan Division in bringing sustainable peace to our area.

“CSP Shaba’s rare commitment to a crime-free society is one of the driving forces that propelled him to work tirelessly with his men and officers in making sure our community is not just safe but also secured for both residents and strangers at any time of the day.

“I’ve had the opportunity of working with quite a number of Divisional Police Officers in the last six years of my tenure as Chairman and I can tell you that CSP Aliyu Shaba, has distinguished himself as the most outstanding and therefore the best police officer to have served in this Division.

“It is therefore on behalf of the entire management and staff of Uvwie Local Government area and the good people of this kingdom, that I present to you this award of recognition as the BEST Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to have worked so hard in combating crimes and other social vices that had curbed rising crimes waves in the community.

“We are so excited that with your coming, residents of Uvwie Council, both indigenes and non-indigenes, have enjoyed a remarkable improvement in the safety of their lives and property.

“We therefore wish to acknowledge your impact with this award as a mark of recognition for the great job you have done in our community and wish you the very best in future endeavors in your policing career”, he enthused.

It can be recalled that CSP Shaba had contributed immensely to the peace so far in Ekpan community by liaising with the various clan heads to embark on arms and ammunition mop-up in the community through a disarmament programme he initiated and tagged; “Surrender Your Arms And Get Pardoned”, which led to hundreds of youths dropping their weapons.

He had also decimated many criminal gangs and notorious armed robbery and kidnapping kingpins like dreaded Momotimi, Bobone, Aka “Ogbanje”, Ololo, Scorpion and many others in Warri, Effurun, Udu, and its environs since he was posted to the state.Based on his policing efforts, nightlife has gradually returned to the once sleepy city of Warri and its environs, as residents now go about their businesses without fear of robbery attacks.
