Delta govt to partner with state institutions on entrepreneurship

The Delta State Government has set up entrepreneurship schemes in higher institutions as part of measures to reduce the level of unemployment in the state, especially among youths.

The Special Adviser to Delta State Governor on Entrepreneurship Development, Dr Onyibe Peterson, disclosed this on Tuesday when he paid a courtesy call on the management of the University of Delta, Agbor.

Peterson underscored the importance of entrepreneurship in the lives of students, noting that it will encourage them to devise innovative solutions.

He equally stated that entrepreneurship drives economic growth and creates jobs, especially for graduates.

The governor’s aide stressed that the agropreneur and techpreneur initiatives are aimed at engaging the students positively to become job creators instead of job seekers.

He requested a large space of land where the hydroponic farming system would be practised to attract gains for both the students and the institution.

On techpreneurship, Peterson said a team of lCT experts would train the students, especially on digital marketing, cyber security and others to enhance their potential.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, in her response, commended Peterson for his love for University of Delta, which has been immensely felt.

Chiemeke said the university was ready to partner with the Office of Entrepreneurship as the Department of Agriculture would do the needful to ensure a smooth kick-off of the scheme.
