The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated its Delta State Committee as part of its plan to challenge President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the committee’s inauguration in Asaba, the state capital, is aimed at establishing party offices at the state, local government, ward, and unit levels, as well as conducting awareness campaigns to familiarize the public with the ADC’s vision.
Abdullahi stressed that the party’s mission from the federal to the state level is clear, emphasizing justice, equity, and transparency. He stated, “The problem Nigeria faces today stems from the kind of politics that have been practiced over the years. If we want to put the country on a new path and make politics work for the people, we must approach it differently.”
He also criticized Delta State’s government, asking, “Delta is one of the most resource-rich states in Nigeria, yet why has it remained underdeveloped?” He noted that other states with fewer resources have achieved visible transformations, implying that the government has not prioritized the people’s welfare. Abdullahi highlighted the ADC’s role as a credible opposition party and framed its mission as a national rescue effort, providing ordinary Nigerians a meaningful platform to engage in governance.
Earlier, the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, represented by Mr. Babachir Lawal, outlined expectations for the newly inaugurated Transition Management Committee, emphasizing strict adherence to the ADC Constitution and operational guidelines. Mark also cautioned against corruption, ticket-trading, manipulation of primaries, and other shady practices common in other political parties. He commended Delta leaders for their commitment and encouraged members to support the national leadership in strengthening the party’s structure across the state.
In his remarks, the National Vice Chairman (South-South), Usani Uguru Usani, urged ADC members in the Niger Delta to remain steadfast and not let past political disappointments discourage them.
Among those inaugurated are notable figures such as Chief Great Ogboru, former APGA governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, and Dcn. Kennedy Pela, among others.
