Nigeria’s AFCON-winning defender Kenneth Omeruo is ready to embark on a new chapter as he finalizes a free transfer to Romanian giant CFR Cluj.
The veteran of the Super Eagles, Kenneth Omeruo, is set to officially join CFR Cluj on July 1, marking a new challenge for the 30-year-old center-back after leaving Turkish side Kasimpasa.
The deal, arranged by well-known agent Anamaria Prodan, was nearly sealed when she posted a picture of Omeruo with Cluj president Cristi Balaj, reflecting the club’s intent to bolster its defense with experienced leadership.
Omeruo, who has earned 69 caps for Nigeria and was a key player in the squad that clinched the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in 2013, becomes the sixth Nigerian to don the Cluj jersey.

CFR Cluj, regarded as one of the most successful clubs in Romania in recent years, will depend on Omeruo’s defensive prowess and leadership as they aim to reclaim the Liga I title and make a significant impact in European competitions.
For Omeruo, the goal is evident: to bring stability to Cluj’s defense, achieve trophy success, and write a new chapter in a career that has left a considerable mark on African football.
