Afiesere community calls for sack of contractor over abandoned fed govt project

Residents of Afiesere Community in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State ,has called for the immediate sack of a contractor over abandoned federal government substation project over a year without any meaningful reason.

The protesters during the protest had displayed several placards such as; “Federal government should come and see TCN abandoned project, “We need light in Afiesere community and new contractor to complete the project, “TCN come and complete our substation.

“Afiesere is an oil producing community and cannot continue to be experiencing epileptic light, “President Bola Tinubu should come and see TCN abandoned substation project in Afiesere community, “Afiesere community substation has now become abandoned project.

The protesters who lamented while speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, said Afiesere community has been experiencing power outrage over a year following an abandoned federal government substation project which the leadership of the community said ought to have been completed within two weeks.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, the President General, Afiesere Community, Mr. Luke Umukoro said the community is embarking on the peaceful protest for the failure of the contractor to meet up with the two promise he had given to complete the project.

Umukoro said the essence of the peaceful protest is to draw the attention of the federal government to the substation project abandoned by the contractor (QAAKS Bros Nig. Ltd) and appealed to government to order the contractor back to site to finish the job or get the community new contractor.

He said the contractor had initially when told the community that within one week or two, they will be done with the job and that every equipment needed for the has been provided but expressed disappointment why the contractor disappeared and abandoned the projects.

The Youth Vice Chairman, Mr. Clever Ukpedor who represented the You Chairman, Mr. Ejotubu Erubure said President Bola Tinubu has done well by awarding the contract to improve on power in the area and they cannot fold their hands to watch one contractor thwarting the efforts of the federal government.

Others who also spoke, Madam Josephine Ughellidoro, Mr. Joseph Ugbe said, “We have been suffering this light issue for years now, and we want government to restore our light back so that Afiesere which is an oil producing community can return to its past glory. We are begging the federal government through the ministry of power and energy to restore our light back.
