Experts at the Second Technical and International Conference of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, have identified artificial intelligence and strategic innovation as vital for sustaining the oil and gas value chain across all sectors and driving global competitiveness.
The conference, themed “Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability in Contemporary Times: The Prospects and Future Developments, brought together experts who stressed that leveraging AI would not only reshape operations but also secure the industry’s long-term viability in an increasingly competitive global market.
The second edition of the Federal University of petroleum resources, Technical and international conference was organised by the institutions to brainstorm on innovative solutions and appraise challenges of the oil and gas industry.
The papers presented at the conference saw industry players and the academic Community interphase to identify key areas of collaborations and government partnership in driving adoption of technology and creative routine that would help in reducing environmental impact even as it seeks better ways to implement global best practices in view of digital transformations in the formation of government policies.
According to the lead speakers at the conference including Abimbola Olujide, Eromosele Fredrick and engineer amongst other resource persons who spoke virtually noted that Nigeria is well positioned to compete global but its is plague due to infrastructural deficit maintaining that through innovations and technological advancement will compete and attractive to environmental compliant investors.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ezekiel Agbalagba while commending the lead paper presenters for their insight noted that for the Nigeria Industry to be competitive global, it must go the Way of technology adoption in the industry, a government partnership to drive research and development as well as funding of research work to reposition the industry.
Others including the Dean of Science, Prof Kenneth Ibe and the Chairman local organizing committee Elias Elemike urged government partnership for institutional research and development as the conference was an eye opener for onward progress of the oil and gas industry.
Highlights of the program was award of recognition to outstanding researchers who have contributed to the development of the oil and gas industry.
