As the final rites for the late Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, HRM Macaulay Ovbagbedia, Osadjere-Uhurhie II, began on Tuesday, Olorogun Albert Akpomudje (SAN) rallied the people of Olomu to come together and pay their last respects.
With the monarch’s sons, daughters, and family members gathered at the temporary palace, Ovwor-Olomu, in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, the socio-cultural rites began with a service of songs. Following this, the three ruling houses of Olomu were formally called together to pay tribute to the traditional ruler.
The service of songs was led by the Most Reverend Cyril Odiboroghene Odutemu, who delivered a sermon in the Urhobo dialect titled “All These Things Shall Pass Away.” In his message, he urged everyone to be mindful of their actions while they are still young, healthy, and strong, reminding them that time inevitably moves at its own pace.
Odutemu also encouraged everyone to accept the Messiah, emphasizing that only He can bring true salvation.
Speaking on the third day of the event, Akpomudje praised the late monarch, describing him as a wise traditional ruler known for his peaceful nature towards his people.
Despite his advanced age in his nineties, the Otota noted that the late ruler still showed remarkable wisdom and insight.
As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the next in line to the throne, Akpomudje also commended the three ruling houses for their unity and support during this time.
The occasion was marked by various cultural dances, showcasing the rich customs and traditions that form an important part of the ancient rites.
Several prominent figures from the Olomu community have been actively involved in the ceremonies, including Olorogun Moses Taiga, Dr. F. Abudu, President General of Olomu, Olorogun Ebenezer Okorodudu, Director of Projects on the DESOPADEC board, Olorogun John Oguma, the Odjenigbonwan of Olomu Kingdom, Olorogun Philip Korobor, the most senior Chief, Olorogun Jacob Diejomahor, and Olorogun John Ewenede, Secretary to Ughelli South Local Government.
