Delta State political advocate and Director General, Akpososo Oghenekaro (popularly known as Mimikay), has called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to urgently prioritize security across the state in the face of rising threats and public anxiety.
Oghenekaro and his team made the appeal during a media briefing held on Tuesday, citing the growing insecurity that has left residents—particularly in areas like Abraka—living in fear and uncertainty.
In a statement personally signed by him, Oghenekaro stressed, “All work without security amounts to nothing. Without a safe and secure environment, investments will flee, businesses will struggle, and our people will continue to suffer.”
The group commended the governor’s previous security efforts, especially the establishment of the special police outfit codenamed Operation Sweep, but urged its operatives to intensify their activities and deliver results that reflect the administration’s significant investment in the initiative.
Oghenekaro emphasized the need for increased police presence, better equipping of security agencies, and greater collaboration with traditional rulers and community stakeholders to address the root causes of insecurity in local communities.
Expressing confidence in Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, he said, “We believe in the governor’s ability to deliver the dividends of democracy. With a robust security strategy, Delta State can become a safe haven for residents and a magnet for investors.”
He concluded with a passionate call to action, urging the governor to make security a top priority. “The people of Delta deserve to live and work without fear of violence or harassment,” Oghenekaro said. “Security must come first if we are to truly move Delta forward.”
