Aliyu Zubairu Ends El-Kanemi Era, Set to Lead Flying Eagles

Flying Eagles Head Coach, Aliyu Zubairu has ended his time with El-Kanemi Warriors following the completion of the 2025 football season, as reported by BSN Sports.

Zubairu, who led the team to victory in the Federation Cup in 2024, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the fans, management, and the community of Borno State for their unwavering support during his time with the club.

He also shared a farewell message to Elkanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri as he prepares to guide the Flying Eagles of Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the management, staff, players, and fans for their unwavering support over the past two years. My journey with the club has been filled with unforgettable memories and accomplishments that have reinforced the team’s place in Nigerian football history.”

“After careful consideration, I have decided not to renew my contract, which is set to end at the conclusion of my two-year tenure.

This decision stems from my belief that I have contributed significantly to the club’s development and progress. Staying true to my principles, it is time for me to move on to the next chapter of my career.”

“Having represented this club as a player and subsequently promoting it to the premier league as a coach, securing the President Federation Cup (FA Cup), and ensuring its continued presence in the NPFL, it has been a true honor to represent this esteemed symbol of Borno State.”

I also wish to acknowledge the Borno State Commissioner for Sports, Honourable Saina Buba, and the Chairman of the Borno State Football Association, Alhaji Babagana Kalli, for their invaluable help.”
