TOBI AMUSAN

World record holder Tobi Amusan completed the women’s 100m hurdles at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, in a time of 12.38 seconds, securing second place in a highly competitive race, as reported.

Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent claimed victory with a world-leading time of 12.32 seconds, while American Kendra Harrison finished third with a time of 12.50 seconds.

The event featured a high-caliber lineup, including Olympic champion Masai Russell, who finished fourth in 12.50 seconds, and 2023 world champion Danielle Williams, who placed fifth with a season-best time of 12.51 seconds.

Although Amusan did not achieve the top position, her performance demonstrated that she remains a strong contender as she gains momentum in preparation for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Her consistent performance throughout the season has been noteworthy, highlighted by several podium finishes in the Diamond League circuit.

Amusan’s determination and gradual return to form continue to attract attention, particularly after overcoming challenges earlier in the year.

The race was not without its drama, as USA’s Tia Jones did not finish due to a fall midway through, underscoring the narrow margins in sprint hurdling.

Off the track, Amusan made a statement with a bold new look, sporting a shaved head, which reflects her renewed focus and individuality.

Amusan is regarded as one of Nigeria’s most promising medal prospects, with her sights firmly set on regaining her world title in Tokyo.

As the global athletics season intensifies, the message from Eugene is unmistakable: Tobi Amusan is decisively back in contention.
