Aniocha South Chairman Calls for Unity, Trust in Democracy

As Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day on June 12, 2025, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike, the Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Area, has urged Nigerians to embrace unity in their diversity and renew their trust in the democratic system as the best path toward national rejuvenation, harmony, and sustainable growth.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Pastor Chukwunwike commended the tenacity of Nigerians who, in spite of economic and social hurdles, have remained committed to the democratic process. He encouraged residents of the council to maintain hope and continue raising their voices and offering support to contribute to a brighter and more prosperous nation.

“As we celebrate this significant day, I urge every Nigerian to keep their faith in our democracy and its institutions,” Chukwunwike asserted. “The journey has not been easy, but democracy remains the most effective platform through which the populace can determine their destiny by selecting leaders who embody their hopes and aspirations.”

The council leader honored the champions of Nigeria’s democracy, both past and present, who made significant sacrifices to attain freedom, accountability, and the representation of the people’s voice in governance. He described democracy as a “priceless national treasure” that must be safeguarded with unwavering dedication.

“Our democracy may not be flawless, but it is ours to cultivate, safeguard, and enhance,” he stated. “We must continue to trust in it and defend it—not only for ourselves but also for future generations.”

Chukwunwike praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts, noting that his Renewed Hope Agenda is instigating essential reforms within the country. He also acknowledged Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, for his MORE Agenda, along with other council chairpersons across the State for their community-centered initiatives that are sustaining the spirit of democracy at the grassroots level.

“The dedication of these leaders to the welfare of our citizens exemplifies the true nature of democracy: service, growth, and inclusion,” he remarked.

Regarded as a leader closely connected to grassroots and media, Chukwunwike reiterated his firm commitment to delivering people-focused service in Aniocha South. He pointed out the ongoing developmental advancements in the council under his leadership, aimed at enhancing lives and renewing hope within communities.

“I have always believed that leadership is not merely a privilege but a duty—to serve with integrity, act with compassion, and prioritize the people above all else,” he stated. “This is not just my duty; it is my promise to the people of Aniocha South.”

As the nation contemplates its democratic path, Chukwunwike called for unity, patience, and shared responsibility among Nigerians, encouraging everyone to rise above divisions and embrace a collective vision of advancement.

“Let us find strength in our diversity and collaborate to create the Nigeria we envision,” he remarked, emphasizing that “democracy provides us with that chance, and together, we must strive to preserve it.”

He wished all Nigerians a peaceful and thoughtful Democracy Day, urging citizens to use this occasion as a reminder of their ability to influence the future and reaffirm their obligation as guardians of democratic principles.
