Appeal Court Validates Ogedegbe’s Mandate

The Executive Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Council, Hon. Augustine Usinefe Augustine Ogedegbe JP, has secured a decisive legal victory after the Court of Appeal sitting in Asaba dismissed the appeal filed by Hon. Barr. Joseph Oshevire, which sought to challenge his qualification and election as Chairman.

In a unanimous decision in Appeal No. CA/AS/60/2026 Hon. Barr. Joseph Oshevire v. Mr. Augustine Usinefe Ogedegbe & Anor, the Court of Appeal ruled that the appeal was entirely without merit and accordingly dismissed it. The lead judgment was delivered by Honourable Justice Asma’u Musa Mainoma, with the other Justices fully concurring.

The appellate court upheld the earlier ruling of the High Court of Delta State, Isiokolo Judicial Division, which had also dismissed Hon. Oshevire’s suit. In that case, Hon. Oshevire had asked the court to disqualify and remove Hon. Ogedegbe as Executive Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Council. With this final judgment, the Court of Appeal has firmly validated Hon. Augustine Ogedegbe JP as the duly elected and qualified Executive Chairman, reaffirming the mandate freely given to him by the people.

In his reaction to the judgment, Hon. Ogedegbe expressed deep gratitude to God, the judiciary, and the people of Ethiope East for their steadfast support and trust in his leadership. He also praised his legal team, led by F. T. Eruli-Ede, Esq., for their professionalism, commitment, and outstanding representation throughout the legal proceedings.

The Chairman further reassured the people of Ethiope East of his continued dedication to good governance, grassroots development, and inclusive leadership, emphasizing that his administration remains fully focused on delivering sustainable development and improving the welfare of all residents.
