Soldiers of the Nigerian Army stationed at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) outpost have undertaken a temporary repair of damaged portions of the ever-busy Refinery Road, directly in front of the Warri Refinery.
This intervention comes shortly after Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Swiss Hotel and Resort in Ubeji, Warri, directed the Warri-Uvwie Environs Development Agency (WUEDA) to immediately begin repairs on the deteriorated sections of the road—from the Ekpan Flyover Bridge down to Ubeji to ease the heavy traffic flow along the Y-junction that links Refinery Road to Warri and Okpe LGAs.
Moved by the daily struggles of road users, the soldiers took it upon themselves to carry out a temporary “quick-fix” on the worst sections of the road. Their action, described by residents as both timely and humanitarian, is intended to provide relief to commuters while the state government works toward fulfilling its commitment to rehabilitate the road before the festive season ends.
For months, commuters have endured severe hardship navigating the dilapidated Refinery Road, which has become a nightmare due to deep potholes and constant gridlock. The situation is worsened by the movement of heavy petroleum-laden trucks traveling from Ifiekporo through Ubeji and exiting Warri via the already overstretched road.
The Army’s unexpected intervention has brought momentary relief to motorists and residents, who hope that the state government’s planned full-scale repair will soon follow.
