Arsenal’s summer transfer moves have been really impressive so far. The team has managed to improve almost every position that needed strengthening, with players like Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres, Cristhian Mosquera, and Noni Madueke joining the squad.
According to Romano, Arsenal had a chance to sign Ademola Lookman during an urgent transfer meeting before they decided to go with Eze instead.
Romano also said that Arsenal called an emergency meeting after Kai Havertz got injured. During this meeting, they looked at the possibility of signing Ademola Lookman from Atalanta. In the end, Arsenal went with Eze, but at one point, Lookman was a possible target.
”Yes, they had an internal emergency meeting at Arsenal to figure out what to do after Havertz’s injury,” Romano said.
”They were thinking about getting a number nine, a number ten, or maybe a winger. One of the names they were looking at was Ademola Lookman, the Atalanta winger who was originally supposed to join Inter. But when that deal didn’t work out, he became available, and that made him an option for Arsenal.”

Considering Lookman instead of Eze might have led to an interesting situation. Looking at last season’s stats, it seems like Lookman had a better impact than Eze.
However, we need to think about the context. Lookman played in Serie A, which is generally considered less competitive than the Premier League. So to make a fair comparison, we should look at the stats of both players in the English top flight.
Eze has better Premier League stats than Lookman, which is why it makes sense that Arsenal chose the England international over the Atalanta player.
