The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, has urged Hartland Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the rehabilitation of the failed sections of the Asaba end of the Asaba-Benin Expressway, to speed up work on the project as the festive season draws near.
The monarch made the appeal during a weekend visit to the construction site to personally assess the level of progress.
He expressed concern that the project had dragged on for too long, causing severe hardship for motorists who now rely on Asaba’s internal roads as alternative routes. According to him, the influx of heavy-duty trucks and fuel tankers on these local roads has led to significant damage and exposed residents to the risk of accidents and explosions a situation he described as no longer tolerable.
While acknowledging that some work had begun, the Asagba emphasized the need for faster progress, dismissing the excuse of rainfall delays. He stated that with modern construction technology, weather should not be a major obstacle.
The royal father also reminded the contractor that the road experiences high traffic during the Christmas period, warning that failure to complete the rehabilitation before the holidays would reflect poorly on the Federal Government and continue to inflict hardship on road users.
During his visit, the Asagba was received by the Project Manager, Engr. Rawad Yehya. He also inspected the Abraka end of Dennis Osadebay Way, where he expressed disappointment over the failure of Roadwell Contracting Ltd. to commence the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay works as awarded.
