Maltreatment at Asaba Diagnostic Facility

The Delta State Government has commenced an investigation into allegations of maltreatment and unprofessional conduct at a popular diagnostic facility in Asaba, following a formal complaint lodged by a resident of the state.

The investigative visit was carried out by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Health Monitoring, Dr. Awunor Alexander Chidubem, acting under the directive of the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme.

The visit was triggered by a report received through the Health Monitoring Help Desk, in which a Deltan alleged poor treatment while accessing services at the facility.

In response, the Health Monitoring Team visited the centre to obtain first-hand information and conduct a detailed assessment of the claims.

Leading the team, Dr. Awunor explained that the exercise was aimed at ensuring accountability and safeguarding the rights of patients across the state.

Findings from the visit, he said, will be compiled into an official report and submitted to the Honourable Commissioner for Health for appropriate action.

The Health Monitoring Team operates under the mandate of the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whose administration has consistently prioritised the welfare, safety and protection of Deltans, particularly in the health sector.

The investigative visit also serves as a warning to healthcare providers across Delta State to uphold professionalism, avoid sharp practices and adhere strictly to ethical standards in service delivery.

Authorities reaffirmed that all complaints received from residents will be treated with seriousness, transparency and impartiality.

Deltans have been encouraged to continue reporting cases of maltreatment, perceived malpractice and other infractions to the Health Monitoring Team to enhance effective oversight and accountability within the healthcare system.

The Office of the Executive Assistant expressed appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, for his leadership and guidance, as well as to Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, noting that the administration’s MORE Agenda remains central to achieving safer and improved healthcare coverage for all residents of the state.
