Asaba Super Cup: Ugheli Rovers Dismantle Osevan

Ughelli Rovers secured a vital three points on the road after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Osevan FC. The match featured intense action, tactical changes, and a dramatic winning goal in the second half.

The victory moves the Rovers up the standings, while Osevan FC will regret missed opportunities in front of their home fans.

The match began with high energy as both teams searched for an early advantage. In the 23rd minute, the deadlock was finally broken.

Abednego showcased great vision by anticipating the flight of a long ball. He reacted quickly and dinked the ball over the rushing goalkeeper to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Consequently, Ughelli Rovers controlled the tempo for the remainder of the first half.

Osevan FC returned from the break with renewed determination. Their efforts paid off quickly in the 48th minute of play.

Following a dangerous free kick swung into the box, Ifeanyi Ezuruike rose highest among the defenders. He connected with a powerful header that flew into the net, bringing the score to 1-1. This equalizer briefly shifted the momentum in favor of the home side.

However, the home team’s joy was short-lived. In the 55th minute, Ughelli Rovers launched a fierce attack. A brilliant initial shot forced a difficult save from the Osevan goalkeeper.

The keeper spilled the ball into a dangerous area, and Success Oloya was the fastest to react. He pounced on the rebound and fired it home to make it 2-1. This goal ultimately ensured the Ughelli Rovers win.

As the game entered its final stages, both managers turned to their benches. In the 63rd minute, Ughelli Rovers made a double substitution. The coach brought on Gift and London to replace Clinton and Buchi, aiming to freshen up the midfield.

Osevan FC responded in the 67th minute by bringing on Chukwuneku Elike for the goalscorer, Ifeanyi Ezuruike. Despite several late attacks from the home side, the Rovers’ defense remained solid.

The fourth official signaled five minutes of additional time at the end of the 90 minutes. However, Osevan FC could not find a second equalizer. After the final whistle, the visitors celebrated a well-deserved victory.
