The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Professor Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge convened an emergency Asagba-in-Council meeting 30 November at Ogwa-Uku Ahaba where far-reaching decisions were taken to restore peace and security in the ancient kingdom.
While declaring that peace is Asaba’s greatest industry, the Professor Azinge announced an immediate total ban on scrap metal vendors and the evacuation of all dump sites across the capital city, blaming them for the rising wave of insecurity.
“No truck will be allowed to park overnight on Asaba soil henceforth,” he ruled.
The decisions followed recent violent incidents, including the cold-blooded murder of late Justice Ifeoma Okogwu in her residence and attacks along Koka and Abraka axes.
The Monarch directed the Asaba Community Vigilante, led by Ogbueshi Nnamdi Chukwuedo and Onoi Ahaba Ogbueshi Uche Nwajei to enforce the new measures while urging quarters yet to form vigilante units to do so immediately.
The monarch also issued a stern warning against multiple sales of land, vowing to derobe any chief found guilty.
Professor Azinge said drug barons earlier flushed out, have returned, but “they will be raided soon” as a rehabilitation centre is now almost ready.
Speaking on the controversial Anioma State proposal, the Asagba-in-Council unanimously rejected any plan to cede Asaba as capital to the South-East.
“We want Anioma State, but not in the South-East,” Onwa Ahaba Chief Peter Onwusanya declared.
His Royal Majesty clarified that he is not opposed to Anioma State creation but insists it remains in the South-South.
