Asagba of Asaba Withdraws as Chairman of Anioma State Technical Committee

In a dramatic development that has sent shockwaves through the Anioma State creation movement, His Royal Majesty, Professir Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, the Asagba of Asaba, has announced his immediate withdrawal as Chairman of the Technical Committee driving the proposed Anioma State.

The monarch, in a statement released Friday 21 November through his Personal Secretary, Ogbueshi Dr Jude C. Mgbeze, declared that while he remains irreversibly committed to the creation of Anioma State within its historically recognised boundaries, irreconcilable differences have forced his exit from the committee leadership.

The Asagba cited two fundamental issues: sharp disagreements over the geographical boundaries and delineation of the proposed state, and what he described as “clandestine and delusional complicity” by some proponents to relocate the capital from Asaba to another location.

“As the Traditional Ruler of Asaba, I cannot be seen presiding over the liquidation and decimation of my kingdom,” the statement read, stressing that his sacred oath of office obligates him to protect, preserve, and defend the interests and wellbeing of the Asaba people at all times.

The monarch warned that any attempt to compromise Asaba’s historical and strategic position, particularly its status as the natural capital, would be firmly rejected.

The withdrawal comes amid growing tensions within the Anioma advocacy groups over composition, boundaries, and leadership of the proposed state.

Observers say the Asagba’s decision may significantly impact the momentum of the campaign as the matter heads to the National Assembly.

The Asagba, however, reaffirmed his personal support for Anioma State, provided it respects the integrity of the historic nine local government areas and retains Asaba as capital.
