The Chairman of Delta State Board of Internal Revenue Service, Chief Solomon Ighrakpata has attributed the revenue boost in the state to the peace-building efforts and impactful infrastructure projects which have increased public confidence and tax compliance.
Chief Ighrakpata made this known on Tuesday when he played host to members of the Association of insurance managers and CEO of Insurance Brokers forum, Warri chapter in his office.
Chief Ighrakpata while addressing the executive and members of the Association of insurance managers and CEO of Insurance Brokers revealed to them that the Board has put in place modalities to curb sharp practices amongst staff and agents.
While responding to the allegations made by the body, he noted that the board will immediately set up a committee to investigate the agents that are compelling motorists to purchase third-party motor insurance policies directly from them at the time of renewing their motor vehicle documents.
Chief Ighrakpata pledged to curb the activities of such Agents , assuring members of the Association that the committee will do a good job and solicit their support to achieve the needed result.
Earlier the Warri chapter chairman of the Association of insurance managers and CEO of Insurance Brokers forum, Rtn Benjamin Usiora revealed to the chairman and executive directors of the state Board of internal Revenue service that some agents in the board are involved in the illegal sales of third party motor insurance.

He stated that the actions of such agents are illegal, exploitative and violate the Nigerian Insurance Act of 2003, along with the operational guidelines set by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), which empowers only licensed insurance companies and registered insurance brokers to sell insurance products.
Rotarian Usiora further stated that the mandate imposed by the board’s agents infringes upon motorists’ rights to freely choose their insurance providers, constitutes an abuse of office, and breaches proper due process.
The group demanded that the Board of internal Revenue service should investigate the activities of the involved agents and appropriate sanctions for those found guilty , put an end to illegal sale of third party motor insurance by it’s agents in all revenue offices in Warri and across the State, direct all revenue officers to limit their responsibilities to the collection of statutory vehicles registration and renewal fees without interfering in the insurance business, amongst others.
