Boat Mishap: Eight persons feared dead, over 20 missing in Delta

Eight persons have been reported dead with over twenty others still missing after a boat mishap which occurred at Beneth Island in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

The victims on a speedboat at a very high speed were said to be returning from a burial ceremony when they had a collision with a big log in the creeks and in the process the boat capsized.

The victims who did not know how to swim and were without live vests drowned and went missing as soon as the incident occurred.

It took several hours before the body of a one-year-old was found floating along the creeks.

At the time of this report, passengers who ply the route were seen demanding live vests from boat riders before embarking on their journeys as they discussed the deaths of the victims.
